Cách sử dụng own, mine trong tiếng Anh

I. Cách sử dụng own

- Dùng own để chỉ cái gì đó của riêng mình, không chia sẻ và không vay mượn của ai, như:

my own house (ngôi nhà của riêng tôi)

his own car (chiếc xe của riêng anh ấy)

her own room (phòng riêng của cô ấy)…

-Own luôn đi trước danh từ và sau đại tính từ sở hữu. Và do ý nghĩa của nó ta chỉ có thể nói my own…, his own…, your own…,… chứ không nói an own…

Ví dụ:

Many people in England have their own house. (không nói an own house) (Nhiều người ở nước Anh có nhà riêng).
 I don’t want to share with anyone. I want my own room.(Tôi không muốn chia sẻ với ai hết. Tôi muốn căn phòng của riêng tôi)

Why do you want to borrow my car? Why can’t you use your own car?(Sao anh lại muốn mượn xe tôi? Sao anh không dùng xe của mình?)

- Chúng ta cũng có thể dùng own để nói tự mình làm điều gì đó thay vì người khác làm cho mình. Ví dụ:

Ann always cut her own hair.(Ann luôn luôn tự cắt tóc cho mình)

Do you grow your own vegetables?(Tự anh trồng rau lấy à?)

ON MY OWN, BY MYSELF

Các thành ngữ on+tính từ sở hữu+own như on my own, on your own, on his own,… và by+reflexive pronoun như by myself, by yourself, by himself,… đều có nghĩa là một mình.

Ví dụ:

I like to live on my own

I like to live by myself(Tôi muốn sống một mình)

He’s sitting on his own in a cafe

He’s sitting in a cafe by himself.(Anh ta ngồi một mình trong quán cà phê)

II. Cách sử dụng mine

- Mine được dùng để tránh không phải nhắc lại tính từ sở hữu và danh từ đã đề cập trước đó trong câu. 

Ex: This cake is mine!!! = This cake is my cake!!!

Đại từ sở hữu có thể thay thế cho danh từ.

My + N= mine

Ví dụ:

Your mother is as tall as hers(Mẹ của bạn cao bằng mẹ của cô ấy.)

= Your mother is as tall as her mother.

You’ve got my bag. Where’s yours?(Bạn vừa cầm túi của mình. Túi của bạn đâu rồi?)

= You’ve got my bag. Where’s your bag.

1. I’m meeting a friend of mine tonight.

7. Is that man a friend if yours?

8. I met a friend of Jane’s at the party.
