Lời mời trong tiếng Anh
Trong giao tiếp tiếng Anh, để mời ai đó đi đâu, làm gì thì tùy theo ngữ cảnh trang trọng hay thân mật thì bạn có thể lựa chọn lời mời khác nhau.
Dưới đây là một số mẫu câu được sử dụng để làm lời mời trong tiếng Anh.
- I would like to invite you to a reception next Sunday at my home. (Trang trọng)
- I would like to invite you to dinner at the new French restaurant. (Trang trọng)
- Would you care to join us for dessert and coffee?
(dessert: món tráng miệng)
- Would you like to go to Washington with me next month?
- I was wondering if you'd like to go to the pool on Saturday.
- I was wondering if you'd like to come to dinner on Tuesday evening.
Chú ý: Khi bạn mở đầu câu "I was wondering if..." bạn phải tuân theo trật tự Chủ ngữ rồi đến Động từ: you + would like... chứ không dùng theo dạng câu hỏi là: Would + you + like...?
Ngoài các mẫu câu trên, bạn có thể sử dụng How about ... hoặc What about ...:
- Can you meet me at the gym after class for some basketball?
- Will you come over tomorrow night and watch the game with us?
- How about a movie tonight?
- What about a movie tonight?
- How about a quick game of pool before we go home?
- What about a quick game of pool before we go home?
- How about canoeing at the lake tomorow afternoon?
(canoeing: bơi ca nô)
- What about canoeing at the lake tomorow afternoon?
- How about camping out at Mount Mitchell next weekend?
(camping: cắm trại)
- What about camping out at Mount Mitchell next weekend?
Chú ý: Sau "What about...?" hay "How about...?" là một danh từ (a movie, a game) hoặc danh động từ (canoeing, camping).
Ngoài ra, bạn có thể sử dụng mẫu câu bắt đầu với Why not ... hoặc Why don't you như sau:
- Why not jog with me this afternoon?
- Why don't you jog with me this afternoon?
- Why not stop by for a visit on your way home?
- Why don't you stop by for a visit on your way home?
