The Wondrous World of Coffee

Freddy liked to go to the countryside to draw animals and plants. CULTURE SHOCK

Many people dream of living in a foreign country. It can be an amazing experience for those who have the courage to leave (1) _____________ family and friends and settle down in a new place. (2) _____________, there’s one potential problem that you should be aware of: culture shock. Culture shock is the feeling we get from living in a place that is so different to (3) _____________ we grew up that we are not sure how to deal with it. Customs and traditions can be very different and that can sometimes (6) _____________ it difficult to get on with local people and to fund friends. Third-Culture Kids

            The term “third culture kids” was coined in the 1960s (1) ______________ US sociologist Dr. Ruth Hill Useem. She first encountered this phenomenon (2) ______________ she researched North American children (3) ______________ in India.

            These kids spend many years outside of their home culture, but never quite adapt to their host culture, (4) ______________. Caught between two cultures, they form their very own.
