The table gives information on the ratio of doctors as well as hospital beds to 1000 people and the average length of stay in medical facilities of three countries in Europe namely Austria, France and Sweden in 1980, 1990 and 2000.

It can be seen that the figures fluctuated wildly throughout the period of time. It is also worth noticing that Sweden accounted for the largest numbers in all three aspects.

Regarding the doctors to citizens ratio, the most significant figures were in Sweden, beginning with 3.6 specialists per 1000 people in 1980 then rising moderately to 3.8 by 2000. Following a similar trend, that of Austria went up by 0.2 to 1 physician for every 1000 people by the end of the period. In contrast, the proportion of this sector in France decreased markedly, from 2.4 to 1.3. In terms of hospital beds, all three countries witnessed considerable growth, with Austria having the most noticeable change of 2.4 beds per thousand people.

Considering the average stay in medical facilities, Swedish people spent the longest in such places, with 23 days initially; however, the figure dropped to 21 days later on. This is followed closely by the Austrian, with an average of 18 days hospital stay and more distantly by the French, whose figure changed by 4 days throughout the 20-year period.

The table compares healthcare systems in Austria, France, and Sweden in 1980, 1990, and 2000.

Overall, it is clear that the figures for Sweden in all aspects were significantly higher than that of France and Austria.

In 1980, Sweden had 3.6 physicians and 6.4 beds per 1000 people, and an average stay in hospitals of 23 days. Austria had the fewest doctors per 1000 people, at 1.4, while the number of hospital beds in France was lowest, at 0.2 beds per 1000 people. Furthermore, the average hospital stay in Austria was twice as long as that of France, at 18 and 9 days respectively.

By 2000, the average number of physicians per 1000 people in Austria and Sweden both saw a modest increase to 1 and 3.8 doctors respectively, while the opposite was true for France’s figure, which decreased to 1.3. All three countries saw an increase in hospital beds per 1000 people, with 6.9 in Sweden, 1.6 in France, and 3.7 in Austria. Average hospital stay times in both France and Sweden saw a significant decrease by 2000, to 5 and 21 days, while the figure for Austria remained unchanged after 20 years.
