It is irrefutable that international tourism has taken mammoth dimensions. Unfortunately, sometimes, international tourism creates tension rather than understanding between people from different cultures. In this essay, I intend to delve into the causes of this situation and suggest some ways to alleviate the problem.

The most important reason why some are opposed to international tourism is that tourists may unknowingly show disrespect for local culture. For instance, we generally cover our heads in a religious place. A tourist may not do so or take his shoes inside a temple. This may offend the local people. Sometimes, youngsters may be attracted towards the western culture, which the tourists bring with them, and many may find this a threat to the local culture.

Moreover, the tourist dollar may not be helping the local people. We all know that tourists stay in five-star hotels and enjoy the best facilities. They may be taking two showers a day, whereas the local people may not have enough water to drink. This has been the case in Shimla, which is a very popular hill station in Himachal Pradesh, India. On top of that, when tourists buy souvenirs from local artisans, they bargain a lot. The poor artisans, who look up to tourists for their livelihood, end up earning the bare minimum. Finally, tourism creates pollution, which helps nobody. We are all suffering from the consequences of global warming.

The solutions are not simple. We cannot discourage tourism. lt is the backbone of many economies of the world. First of all, the tour operators should take the onus of guiding the tourists about the main things of local culture. Secondly, the tourists should stay with locals as paying guests. This would be a win-win situation for both. Local people would earn, and the tourists would taste the local culture. Finally, ecotourism should be promoted. For example, if an elephant ride is possible, the tourist should avoid using cars. After all, a good tourist is one - who takes away nothing but photographs, and leaves behind nothing but footprints.

Summing up, international tourism does have a downside to it, but many steps can be taken to lessen the negative effects.

People typically travel abroad to discover diverse cultures in various places. However, some claim that rather than broadening their perspectives, travelling abroad only serves to reinforce their prejudices. Before putting up my suggestions, I’d like to evaluate this complex phenomenon.

In my opinion, a huge number of things contribute to this unusual circumstance. First and foremost, as residents of industrialised nations are constantly proud of their outstanding traditions, they are much more inclined to struggle to fit in with a less developed nation. They are presumably dissatisfied with the surroundings, cuisine, weather, and other aspects of the area. Even worse, in host nations where locals are hesitant to accept visitors, certain conflicts between tourists and indigenous people might quickly arise. Furthermore, it is logical that individuals from various countries have different perspectives about different lifestyles, faiths, and other aspects of daily life. Visitors’ misunderstandings about the host country are made worse by the stark disparities. For instance, Chinese tourists may anger their waiters in western nations when they are unaware that they are expected to leave gratuities.

It is evident that having a thorough understanding of the nations they will be seeing before taking off gives them the opportunity to have a more fulfilling trip. Individuals might look for a more detailed introduction to the countries with the aid of computers. They shouldn’t believe the overly dramatic marketing. They can instead consult their pals who have already been there for extra suggestions. They should be psychological and tolerant enough to deal with the negative aspects of the host nations.

To sum up, everyone wants to take a fantastic vacation overseas to enjoy their free time. However, some annoying details and occurrences are unavoidable. As a result, we should focus on the positive aspects of travel rather than developing stereotypes.

International travel is regarded as one of the finest ways of broadening one’s outlook by understanding the diversity of different places, the people, their culture and lifestyle. On the downside, international travel has also led tourists to become biased and cold instead of receptive and indulgent.

One of the primary causes aiding this unwanted outcome is that what is considered sacred in one place may not hold any value for the tourists. In Arab countries, for instance, women are required to wear a burka or unrevealing clothes, and western women, not realizing the importance of being fully clad, may develop an aversion as to why women in these countries are treated the way they are. And visa-versa, a tourist hailing from a reserved background may not identify with the western culture and feel appalled by the lifestyle of people there through not knowing better. Research prior to the trip can resolve this, or if there is a tour guide or organizer, they must take it upon themselves to educate the tourists about the local values and culture in a way that they understand and empathise with rather than look down upon it.

Stereotyping is another significant cause of prejudice among tourists. The source of stereotyping is the media portrayal of certain countries, places and people, which is why tourists have preconceived negative opinions about these places when they arrive. Without really getting to know the local people, a trip may just accentuate these views. Awareness is the only cure to break the stereotypes and for this interaction amongst the local people and the tourists must be rallied by encouraging home stays so that the differences between reality and media portrayal can come to the surface.

In conclusion, international tourism does have its problems which can lead to prejudiced views. However, efforts in the right direction can overcome them.

It is true that travelling to another country is sometimes considered to be a bias than a chance for visitors to broaden their horizons. There are several reasons why international trips have become useless, but measures could certainly be taken to tackle the problem.

There are two main reasons why travellers do not seem to reap the benefits from visiting foreign places. The main reason why tourists commit deviations when they are travelling is that visitors themselves tend to generalize what they have seen or heard and develop biased views on local people or culture. For instance, foreign visitors are likely to see certain practices to be uncivilized, or barbarian, inferior to their own civilization. This lack of information makes them unpleasant instead of becoming eye-opening or rewarding when they get the chance to learn about various customs, lifestyles and rituals. Another reason for this issue is that some people find it stressful to spend time in an alien country where they do not speak the language, or where they feel that they cannot easily integrate with the locals.

There are several actions that travel agencies and tourists could take to promote the consciousness of the destination country. Firstly, travel agencies should take the responsibility of guiding tourists about the essentials of customs and traditions of the nations they have the intention to visit. Secondly, tourists themselves should do some research before going to some places, which results in a great respect for local culture or customs. Finally, tourists do help protect local culture and environment, for example, by taking green transport. By doing these, travellers may find local residents unexpectedly hospitable and welcoming.

In conclusion, there are some negative attitudes of travellers towards host countries, but various measures can be taken to raise awareness of different nations and ethics groups in the rest of the world among foreign visitors.

It is an irrefutable fact that due to an urge to learn new cultures and visit new places, international tourism has increased considerably, which is, among other things, resulting in increased prejudice rather than broad-mindedness. Considering this, this essay will ascertain the considerable factors which are playing their predominating role to increase the incidents of being prejudiced before outlining appropriate measures to cope.

There are some factors involved in increasing the prejudice against the international tourists during their travel. Firstly, cultural and traditional sentiments could be a significant espousing factor to be considered. It is generally seen that the international tourists, inadvertently, end up hurting the cultural or traditional beliefs of not only certain communities but also some religions, which is not considered appropriate by the natives. Not removing the shoes while visiting the temples or not offering a tip to the waiters could be taken as fortifying examples. Moreover, intense bargaining by a certain community could be another substantial cause for this biased behavior.

Despite the causes discussed above regarding the increased prejudice, there are quite a few readily solutions available which could be implemented to mitigate the impacts caused by the potential factors. Initially, awareness could be an effective tool. It can be defined as making ourselves familiar with the cultures and traditions of host countries before our travel by researching on the internet, so our naivety does not become a cause for the misunderstanding. Additionally, having fixed price shops, like big brands, could be another indispensable key.

In the end, indeed, prejudice with the international tourists is adversely affecting the broad-mindedness; however, aforementioned some concrete steps can assist to alleviate the damaging impacts.
