The persistent problem of poverty in the developing world has put a question mark on the relation. The persistent problem of poverty in the developing world has put a question mark on the relation between economic growth and poverty. Some individuals are of the opinion that when economy develops, because of industrial growth, poverty comes down. Others believe that economic growth leads to poverty. This essay intends to analyse both perspectives. I, however, agree with the former view.

To begin with, industrial growth benefits nearly all citizens of a country, even if not equally, and therefore reduces poverty. For example, in rural areas, most of the poor are engaged in agriculture. When such a country grows through agricultural exports, it benefits both poor farmers and the even poorer labourers they employ. Similarly, rapid growth in the manufacturing sector, because of the increase in demand, creates a lot of new jobs, and eventually causes a rise in wages that further reduces poverty.

My second argument comes from historical records. Western countries began discovering the positive relation between economic growth and poverty reduction around 1820 and as a result the living standards in Europe and the United States improved many folds in the next years. Economic growth thus eliminated mass poverty in what is today considered the developed world. Even a short-term view confirms that the recent acceleration of growth in many developing countries has reduced poverty, measured the same way.

The opponents of this view claim that economic progress leads to inequality between the rich and the poor. They opine that a handful of rich are getting richer while the poor are being driven to the wall. However, evidence has shown that such inequality is only temporary, and that, in the long run, everyone benefits from economic growth. It is because of the high initial inequality that it appears as if economic growth is leading to poverty.

Summing up, industrial progress definitely reduces poverty. Sometimes, there is unequal distribution of wealth in the initial stages of economic development. Nonetheless, everyone benefits eventually.

People have different views on whether industrial development should be encouraged to eradicate poverty or should be stopped to reduce global environmental related issues. Although a smaller section of the population believes that this phenomenon would create employment and increase the purchasing power of a nation, I consider that further development should be in favour of the environment.

Firstly, the main reason for the majority of people being below the poverty line is because of the unemployment rate. It is widely known that if any industry is growing, it will create opportunities for many unemployed individuals. Secondly, having substantial and salary, residents would not show a reluctance to purchase goods and services in order to fulfil their elementary needs. This will not only greatly increase in the procurement but also increase the overall country's economy by paying taxes. This extra accrued fund could be then utilised in the development of remaining financially limited individuals.

On the other hand, despite the above arguments, I believe it is more important to consider the long-term benefits. Industrial development, including chemical factories and automotive industries, is a primary cause of air pollution, which is detrimental to human health and global environmental issues. If such corporations continue to grow significantly, the entire planet will suffer the consequences. While industrial growth is necessary, it should focus on mitigating environmental issues rather than exacerbating them.

In conclusion, while developing an industry would play an important role in solving the poverty issue, I believe that those industries should consider plans which could bring benefits in the long run.

The two most dangerous problems faced by a developing country are poverty and environmental pollution. Many people believe it is industrial growth that can solve poverty, and others believe it is the cause of many environmental problems. This essay intends to analyse both perspectives. I, however, agree with the former view.

To begin with, without industrial growth it is nearly impossible for a country to develop, and the development of a country directly affects its citizens. Industrial growth benefits nearly all citizens of a country. For example, in rural areas, most of the poor are engaged in agriculture. When such a country grows through agricultural exports, it benefits both the poor farmers and even the poor labours. Similarly, industrial growth helps to create a lot of job opportunities and eventually causes a rise in wages that reduces poverty.

On the other hand, industrial growth is also responsible for many environmental problems such as air pollution, water pollution and land pollution are worth mentioning. Industries are the major cause of air pollution since the operation of factories results in the emission of pollutants, including organic solvents, respirable particles, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. These pollutants can both public health and the environment. Sometimes wastewater of the industries discharges them untreated. As a result, it causes environmental issues, including pollution of groundwater reservoirs and surface water. Additionally, leakage from the fuel and energy industries, as well as industries involving hazardous materials, are the main causes of land contamination. Therefore, the properties of soil result in pollutants remaining in the soil long after the pollution incident.

To conclude, although there are some drawbacks associated with industrial growth in a country, I believe these problems can be solved easily if the government takes necessary steps against it and opine that industrial growth is the only way to reduce poverty.
