Comic books have long been a popular source of entertainment and amusement for children. However, comic books aren’t just about superheroes and villains, and they are certainly not just for boys. Kids all over the globe have enjoyed reading from Tintin, Asterisks to Spiderman and Teen Titans regardless of the digital wave on large screens. These graphic novels include many different genres such as comedy, drama, sci-fi and fantasy, and they are bound to suit all tastes, ages and reading levels.
The most obvious benefit of comic books is that they are easier to read than regular books. They contain easy-to-read sentences alongside other visual and text cues. This can be extremely appealing to young children who would otherwise have little interest in reading traditional forms of books. Many children who think they hate reading respond particularly well to comic books that are based on movies or television shows like Spider-Man and Batman.
By reading comics, young children are encouraged to read between the lines and infer meaning from the images. This means that they figure out implications, using evidence and reasoning. It’s an important component of successful comprehension and a valuable life skill for all young children to develop. As a result of taking in a combination of words and illustrations, they obtain the overview easier than they would from using textbooks alone.
Question 13. People of all ages can read comic books.
Question 14. Young children like reading traditional books than comic books.
Question 15. Children have to use their power to think and understand hidden messages of graphic novels.
Question 16. Reasoning is not necessary for young children in their lives.
Question 17. What does the passage mainly discuss?
A. Different genres of comic books
B. History of comic strips
C. Advantages of reading graphic novels
D. Comparison between textbooks and comic books
Question 18. Why does the author mention “Tintin, Asterisks, Spider-Man and Teen Titans”?
A. To illustrate how comic books are made into movies.
B. To explain that comic books are not as interesting as cartoons.
C. To inform that many young children like reading books.
D. To support that reading comic books are still popular.

In recent years, environmentalists have raised concerns about the future of food. Every year, 1.3 billion tons of food are consciously thrown away by consumers while over one-tenth of the population still go hungry. Many governments have started to take remedial action to reduce food waste. Since 2013, for example, the US government has launched the Food Waste Challenge, encouraging restaurants, schools and universities to make contact with hunger relief organizations like food banks and pantries. It also forces food manufacturers and stores to improve their product storage systems through which food can be kept longer. In addition, food suppliers are required to recycle their discarded but unexpired products to feed animals or create compost, bioenergy and natural fertilizers. Exercise 5. Read the following and decide if the following sentences are True or False. It is a common misconception that those who take part in extreme sports or look for an “adrenaline rush” are most likely to be young and male. This way of thinking makes extreme sports become viewed in a way that is inaccessible to “normal people”. In fact, participation in extreme activities is beneficial to humans. Participants from all sorts of extreme sports broaden their extraordinary sensory experience that is not usually available in everyday life. This is because their ability to see, here and feel are all heightened during their participation. For example, base jumpers often talk about an enhanced capacity to see every nook and cranny, shapes and sizes of the rock even though they are travelling at 200 mph. What’s more, there is clear evidence that most sensation-seekers develop positive relationships with the natural world and pro-environmental behaviors. During their participation in extreme sports, participants feel like they are merging with the environment which invariably turns into a feeling of being profoundly part of nature. This may be one reason why so many extreme sports athletes spend a great deal of energy and time protecting the natural environment and working hard to raise public awareness of its importance.
