A. DESIRED OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:

- Communication and collaboration:work in pairs/groups to talk about bedroom objects and numbers.
- Problem-solving and creativity: count the numbers, find out what objects they have in their bedroom.

- Honesty: tell the truth about feelings and emotions or play fair in games.

WARM-UP/REVIEW (5 minutes) Aim: To motivate students and help students remember bedroom vocabulary. | |
*Game: “What’s missing?” - Put flashcards showing bedroom vocabulary on the board and ask students to study them for one minute. - After one minute, ask students to look away (put their foreheads on their desks!), take one flashcard away, and rearrange the order of the others. - Ask students to tell What’s missing? - Continue to the game until all the words are practiced. - Give comments. Praise students. àExpected outcomes and assessment - Task completed with excellence: Students can say bedroom vocabularynicely. - Task completed: Students can say bedroom vocabulary. - Task uncompleted: Students are unable to say bedroom vocabulary. |
- Study bedroom vocabulary for one minute. - Look away (put their foreheads on their desks!), take one flashcard away, and rearrange the order of the others. - Answer the question. - Continue to play the game. |
PRESENTATION (10 minutes) Aim: To help students look at the picture and say the words. | |
*Lead-in: Use the picture on page 86 - Ask students to look at the picture and the photo of the boy on page 86 of their books. Ask if students can see the boy’s name and elicit his name is Vinh. àExpected outcomes and assessment - Task completed with excellence: Students can answer the questions correctly. - Task completed: Students can answer the questions. - Task uncompleted: Students are unable to answer the questions. *What’s in the living room? Point and say. (Page 86) - Ask the students to look at the picture on page 86 and predict what the text is about (Vinh’s living room). - Elicit all the things students can recognize in the picture. Write the words on the board. - Put students in pairs to take turns pointing to different living room objects and saying the words. - Call some students to say the words. - Give feedback. Answer: table, chairs, cabinet, TV, books, toys, shelf àExpected outcomes and assessment - Task completed with excellence: Students can say the words correctly. - Task completed: Students can say the words. - Task uncompleted: Students are unable to say the words. |
- Look at the picture and the photo of the boy on page 86 of their books. Say the boy’s name. - Look at the picture on page 86 and predict what the text is about (Vinh’s living room). - Recognize in the picture. - Work in pairs to take turns pointing to different living room objects and saying the words. |
PRACTICE (8 minutes) Aim: To help students read and understand a description and improve listening and reading skills. | |
*Listen and read. (Track 139) - Explain that Vinh is writing a letter about his living room. - Play the recording a second time. Answer any questions. - Ask simple questions to check comprehension, e.g. Where is the TV? How many books are on Vinh’s shelf? What are Vinh’s books about? - Call on some students to read the poster. - Check students’ pronunciation. Give feedback. àExpected outcomes and assessment - Task completed with excellence: Students can read the poster correctly and fluently. - Task completed: Students can read the poster. - Task uncompleted: Students are unable to read the poster. |

PRODUCTION (10 minutes) Aim: To help students listen and draw the picture. | |
*Game: “Back to back” - Give each student a piece of paper and ask them to draw bedroom items on it freely. - Put the students into pairs and ask them to sit back to back. - One student describes their picture and their partner listens and draws what they hear on a blank piece of paper, e.g. There’s a bed and a rug, there’s a shelf and there are five books on it. There are two pillows on the bed. - Then have students switch roles. - Have students compare the two pictures and see how similar they are. - Praise students if they have done well. àExpected outcomes and assessment - Task completed with excellence: Students can listen and draw the picture correctly. - Task completed: Students can listen and draw the picture. - Task uncompleted: Students are unable to listen and draw the picture. |
- Draw bedroom items on it freely. - Work in pairs. Sit back to back. - One student describes their picture and their partner listens and draws what they hear on a blank piece of paper. - Switch roles. - Compare the two pictures and see how similar they are. |
HOMEWORK (2 minutes) - Revise the words and the patterns. - Do the exercises in Workbook page 80. - Prepare for the next lesson (Unit 11 - Lesson 5/Part 2). | |
