I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
1. Knowledge and skills
- Correctly pronounce the name of the letter I/i (/aɪ/); - Correctly pronounce the sound of the letter I/i (/aɪ/) in isolation and in the words: sliding, riding and driving. |
2. Competences
- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs or groups to complete the learning task.
- Self-control and independent learning: perform pronunciation tasks.
3. Attributes
- Show their love and interest in outdoor activities.
- Be careful of doing outdoor activities to keep healthy and happy.
- Show their knowledge about recognising information.

1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (5 minutes)
a. Objectives:
- To review the words with the sound of the letters Y/y and Z/z (yogurt, yams, yo-yos, zoo, zebra, zebu).
b. Content:
- Game: “Word Jumble Race”.
c. Expected outcomes:
- Pupils can correctly remember the sound of the letters Y/y and Z/z (yogurt, yams, yo-yos, zoo, zebra, zebu).

- Tell the class they are going to rearrange the letters to make a meaningful word. - Divide the class into three groups. Each group has six pupils. - Divide the board into three parts. Have each group make a line and stand in front of their part of the board. - Have each pupil from each group take turns rearranging one word, e.g. ubze - zebu. - The group finishes first and gets the most correct answers will win. Praise the winner. |

a. Objectives:
- To correctly pronounce the name of the letter I/i and the sound (/aɪ/), both in isolation and in the word sliding, riding and driving.
b. Content:
- Activity 1. Listen and repeat.
c. Expected outcomes:
- Pupils can correctly pronounce the name of the letter I/i and the sound (/aɪ/), both in isolation and in the word sliding, riding and driving.

Step 1: Draw pupils’ attention to the picture (say “Look at the picture.”). Ask questions to help them identify the context. Step 2: Have pupils point to the letter I/i (say “Point to the letter I.”). Explain that the name of the letter I/i is the same as its sound (say “Listen. /aɪ/ /aɪ/.”). Step 3: Play the recording of the name and sound of the letter I/i and encourage pupils to repeat (say “Listen and repeat.”). Do this several times, with pupils repeating both individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation if necessary, and praise them when their pronunciation is good. Step 4: Have pupils look at some children sliding (say “Look at the children sliding.”). Then have them point to the word sliding (say “Point to the word sliding.”). Draw their attention to the colour of the letter i (say “Look at the colour of the letter i. It is red.”). Step 5: Play the recording of sliding and encourage pupils to repeat (say “Listen and repeat.”). Do this several times, with pupils repeating both individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation if necessary, and praise them when their pronunciation is good. Step 6: Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for riding and driving. Step 7: Play the recording in full and encourage pupils to repeat the name and sound of the letter I/i, sliding, riding and driving both individually and in chorus. |

Now say /aɪ/.” Step 2: Have pupils point to and correctly pronounce the word sliding (say “Point to the word sliding. Say sliding.”). Do this several times, with pupils repeating both individually and in chorus. Correct their pronunciation if necessary, and praise them when their pronunciation is good. Step 3: Repeat Step 2 for riding and driving. Step 4: Put pupils into pairs or groups for further practice of Steps 1 to 3. Go around the class to offer help or correct pupils’ pronunciation, if necessary. |

* Game: “Action race”
- Divide the class into two teams. Tell pupils to stand together in their teams.
- Explain that when you show pupils a flashcard, teams race to mime the action. The first team to correctly mime the action wins one point.
- Play the game. The team with the most points wins.
