Many believe that new taxes on sugary products are beneficial for the public while others feel they impinge on individual freedoms. In my opinion, despite the drawbacks, the benefits to health justify these regulations.
Those who oppose such laws point out the limits placed on less affluent customers. The wealthy can still afford to buy sugary foods and drinks as the taxes are small enough. However, poorer individuals will find that an extra few dollars for a soda or candy bar is prohibitively expensive. They will rightly feel the right to make choices about their own health and the foods they like has been restricted by government. Consumers buying sugary foods and drinks are already well aware of the associated health risks; they have simply decided to value short-term gratification over long-term health.
Nonetheless, freedom and safety will always be in conflict and this change is unequivocally for the public good. Sugar has been shown in studies to be more harmful that fatty foods and is one of the driving factors behind a variety of conditions ranging from obesity to diabetes to, allegedly, cancer. Soda companies like Coca Cola and candy manufacturers like Nestle have tapped into a basic human desire for sweets to attract customers and build their brands. Because they were allowed free latitude in the past, the only solution now is draconian taxes that can begin to slowly dissuade people from sugary products and eventually break down their dependence to a healthy, moderate level.
In conclusion, though there are class issues associated with taxing sugar, these are outweighed by their benefits to public health. Governments around the world ought to adopt some variation of these important reforms.

Diabetes is without a doubt one of the illnesses that affect middle-aged adults the most frequently in the world. While students and many youngsters might be consuming high sugar ignoring their health. High sugar products are a threat to everyone’s health. Sugar intake might also result in mood swings and mood disorders. Governments are taking preventive measures to control this by adding / by the establishment of additional taxes on foods and beverages with high sugar levels. Although many people think that this is a great move by the government, some contend that it may not actually be beneficial. I shall discuss both points of view in this essay and defend the first one.
Many individuals think that raising the tax on food and drink will only result in more money for the government's coffers. Paying the additional tax will also affect middle-class consumers more and might even prevent them from purchasing sugary goods. Additionally, this would be detrimental to the producers of these goods, who might incur significant losses as a result of declining demand.
However, this government action would deter consumers from purchasing foods and drinks with high sugar content. This is advantageous not only for adults, but also for kids who are enticed by many sweet foods and beverages like soft drinks and chocolates. These are the main reasons why young children develop fat and hypertension. Increased levies on Pepsi and Coke, according to a recent report, have reportedly reduced their sales by 30% from the previous year.
This may therefore aid in reducing the growing number of diabetes individuals. In other words, this policy will greatly improve public health and enable both the government and the general population to spend less on healthcare.
In conclusion, even though it may seem like a strict measure done by the governing bodies. I think it can actually prove to be quite beneficial for everyone and will make them healthier and more physically fit.

In recent years, there has been a growing trend among governments to introduce special taxes on foods and beverages that are high in sugar. This has sparked a debate among the public, with some believing that these taxes are a good idea while others disagree. In this essay, I will discuss both views and provide my opinion on the matter.
Those who support the implementation of special taxes on sugary foods and drinks argue that it is an effective way to combat the rising rates of obesity and other health issues related to excessive sugar consumption. They believe that by making these products more expensive, people will be discouraged from purchasing them, leading to a reduction in sugar intake and ultimately improving public health. Additionally, proponents of these taxes argue that the revenue generated from them can be used to fund health initiatives and programs aimed at promoting healthier eating habits.
On the other hand, opponents of these taxes argue that they unfairly target lower-income individuals who may rely on these products as affordable sources of energy. They also argue that the government should not interfere in personal dietary choices and that education and awareness campaigns would be a more effective approach to tackling the issue of excessive sugar consumption. Furthermore, some critics believe that these taxes are simply a way for the government to generate additional revenue and do not actually address the root causes of the problem.
In my opinion, while special taxes on sugary foods and beverages may have good intentions, they may not be the most effective solution to addressing the issue of excessive sugar consumption. Instead, a multi-faceted approach that includes education, awareness campaigns, and collaboration with food industries to reduce sugar content in products would be more beneficial in promoting healthier dietary choices.

It is rightly said that sugar is a slow poison for humankind which is supported by many scientists also. Many governments across the globe have levied taxes on foods and beverages containing excess sugar. Few believe that it is a good idea; however, others disagree with putting these taxes. Both views are discussed in this essay before giving the opinion.
In recent years, local authorities in every nook and corner of the world have become aware of the health of the people. As a preventive action, they have started keeping some extra taxes on food items that are high in sugar. This decision is warmly welcomed by certain demographics of the society. Advocates of this idea understand the real purpose of governments behind this step: to turn their citizens towards healthy eating. Additionally, they strongly believe that by implementing this, people will not only prefer healthy options, but they will save a lot of money by not buying unhealthy chocolates and soft drinks. A prime example of this would be the action taken by India, where the government is charging double on buying sweets which have significantly reduced new diabetes patients in a year. Therefore, some people think that these taxes are helping citizens only.
Conversely, others disagree and claim that it is a preposterous idea. They just believe that charges should be equal on every food item because, in this way, vendors of such items will surely face huge losses in their businesses which are likely to damage the economy and increase unemployment. On top of this, they argue that citizens should have the freedom on what they eat, though governments are taking away this basic right by taking this unnecessary step. Moreover, they have suggested that local authorities should rather find different ways to encourage people to do regular exercise. Hence, few of them think that it is not at all a good thought to levy takes.
To conclude, admittedly, there are few disadvantages of introducing taxes on foods and beverages consisting of more sugar, but, in my opinion, advantages are outweighing them, and this idea will positively impact the health of each and every individual.

Special taxes have lately been levied on foods and drink products that are high in sugar. The introduction of sugar taxes evokes strong feeling both for and against. In my opinion, however, this has more drawbacks.
Pro-tax advocates consider the sugar tax as a significant measure in the fight against non-communicable diseases. To illustrate, sugar proves to be more hazardous to human beings than saturated fat and is one of the determining factors in developing many diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer to mention but a few. However, price is a major issue in purchase choices, and sugar tax can act as a deterrent, thus helping reduce consumption and preventing these diseases. Moreover, sugar-calorie dense foods and drinks put a burden of high external cost on society. In other words, taxation on sugar-sweetened foods and beverages offers healthcare cost savings.
Opponents, however, claim that there is little evidence that such steps are effective. To start with, simply excising tax on sweet foods and drinks does not automatically guarantee the decline of the consumption of sugar. They go on arguing that consumers of sugary foods and beverages are likely to accept that they have to spend more for the privilege of enjoying their consumption choices, in a similar manner to how smokers continue to indulge in spite of higher taxation on tobacco. Apart from this, unemployment can hit hard workers of the beverage and sugar industries if consumers cut down their consumption. For instance, a study conducted by the think tank worker’s alliance reveals that sugar tax will cause considerable job losses. Most importantly, the sugar tax is regressive too. To put it simply, the tax will take a substantial amount of income from those in the low-income group.
In conclusion, it seems reasonable to put forward the opinion that imposing taxes on sugary foods and beverages have severe consequences in the sense that it can prove to be ineffective, regressive and will cause significant job losses.

Today, with the increasing rate of health problems due to sugary foods, governments worldwide have introduced special taxes on sugar. While I think this action is mainly effective, there are some downsides that we need to consider.
I agree that there should be a special tax on sugary foods and beverages. Firstly, sugar is the culprit for multiple health issues. For example, sugary foods can first lead to obesity and dental problems. A more serious case of overindulgence of sugary foods and beverages can ultimately lead to diabetes, which can hardly be entirely cured. Another reason why I think sugary foods should be taxed is this tax is a way to relieve the burden on healthcare systems in the future. Health issues involving sugar usually show themselves when individuals are older, and statistically, poorer. This demographic's healthcare is usually subsidized by the government, which is why taxing sugary foods helps to balance out healthcare costs.
However, I can understand why people are against this special tax law. Special taxes on harmful items have been placed on tobacco and alcohol products, for example. Despite this effort, many people are consuming these products regularly. Therefore, many think taxing sugary foods will not make a difference. Some also point out that putting taxes on sugar, without educating people on the reasons for it, can be seen as oppressive to many. For example, only health-conscious people are aware of the dangers high levels of sugar bring. The general public cannot fully understand this, so taxing sugary drinks out of the blue seems oppressive and not transparent. Extreme people may even makeup conspiracies that this tax will only benefit the government.
In conclusion, while I think that there should be a tax on overly sugary foods and drinks, I still believe that the government should carry out this action carefully and inform citizens beforehand.
