There have been opposing views concerning advertisements. While some people claim that it can be beneficial for businesses, others opine that advertising is detrimental to individuals. In my opinion, both ideas are correct to a certain extent.

On the one hand, advertising has long been used by business owners as a great tool to boost sales. Advertisements can give new products recognition and help educate first-time buyers. This means that it can introduce innovative services that have never existed before to the public, or partly guide clueless consumers who have never purchased a product before on its range and qualities. A prime example of this is Nike’s “Just Do It” campaign. In the old days, Nike’s products catered mostly to athletes, but in the late 1980s, Nike created this campaign to introduce its shoes to the masses. The effort was successful in helping Nike tap into a new demographic and in yielding never-before-seen profits for the brand.

On the other hand, advertisements have undeniable negative effects on human’s psyche. Advertising’s core mission is to keep customers informed, however, this is a double-edged sword, as new yearnings are also created, preventing people from being satisfied with what they have and boosting consumerism culture. As individuals are bombarded with advertisements which state that they need something new to better their life, depreciation of their existing assets will appear. For well-off people, life will become a constant race to possess the next ground-breaking products, while for less fortunate ones, they will unconsciously suffer from feelings of inferiority due to not having what is considered good - as stated on advertisements. These are unhealthy modes of living that people should not have to experience.

All in all, whether advertising is advantageous or not depends on the standpoint. For companies, it can provide great assistance to generate more profits, whereas for individuals, advertisements can affect their thinking adversely.

Some people claim that advertising can bring many economic benefits to commercial enterprises, while others argue that it is detrimental to viewers. In my opinion, I believe that advertising will bring a huge profit to the economy, yet it can also be harmful if businesses use it improperly.

On the one hand, advertising is the most affordable and effective marketing method for every business. Foremost, there is rarely a business that does not use advertising as an approach to reach customers since it can introduce new products and help educate first-time buyers. By giving the overall concept to the buyers, advertisements tempt people into making purchases for new items. Another prominent reason is that advertising is diverse in terms of categories. Advertisements are available from the small-scale such as social media pop-up ads, billboards, and flyers to the large-scale advertisements broadcasting on national television channels in prime-time slots. Thus, businesses can customize advertising to suit their budget to maximize their revenue.

On the other hand, a significant amount of business has been using alluring and provocative ads to promote their products leading to many serious consequences for the customers. This issue is most evident in the beauty industry as cosmetic and fashion labels usually use images from models with perfect bodies and faces to form the standard of beauty. These measurements gradually affect the human psyche, which prevents people from being satisfied with who they are and what they have. As a result, making they unwittingly follow the norm by buying the latest products in the market. If they cannot keep up with the constant race, they will unconsciously suffer from feelings of disappointment or even depression due to not having the same beauty as the models in the ads.

In conclusion, advertising is an essential part of promoting product sales and generating profits for businesses. Nevertheless, businesses need to be responsible for the information used in advertising to avoid unexpected negatives and protect the right of customers.

It is a common belief that the economy might benefit significantly from advertisements. At the same time, there is a contradictory view of the detrimental impacts on both individuals and society as a whole. Personally, I believe that both opinions are valid, albeit inadequate.

To begin with, advertisements have always been considered to be one of the most effective marketing tactics to boost sales and establish brand recognition, especially with the help of social media. Advertising nowadays comes in different forms ranging from leaflets, and posters to infomercials and sponsorships which shine a spotlight on new products, providing businesses with plenty of ways to reach customers. In addition, by being a bridge that brings buyers and sellers together, advertisements allow consumers to gain access to the top-quality goods that they desire as well as the ones of reasonable price. For instance, Rolex watches are presented to reflect a lavish lifestyle so their target market which consists of well-off people is thoroughly intrigued by them. On the other end of the spectrum, a more affordable and durable Casio watch appeals to those who are on a budget or want to save money.

A product when being promoted to match its actual value benefits both suppliers and consumers; however, in order to draw clients, some businesses tend to oversell their merchandise, failing to live up to expectations, which in extreme cases can be considered a scam. As a result, buyers end up with goods that are unworthy of the price they paid for and lose faith in brands. Moreover, due to the fact that companies often hire models and invite celebrities who are conventionally attractive to shoot commercials, insecurities among viewers might be brought out. Take cosmetics and clothing items as a prime example, they usually look better when used on fair skin or worn by a toned body in comparison to the normal physique and complexion that most people have. Consequently. people might feel that the problem lies in their appearance and think less of themselves. Besides, the images used for advertisements are usually heavily edited to appear more enticing, which creates unrealistic expectations for how people should look.

In conclusion, advertising plays a crucial role in boosting product sales and helping firms improve their brand awareness. Once misused, it can nonetheless make or break a business and infringe customers' rights so to avoid unanticipated consequences, providers must stick to the code of business conduct.

Some people argue that advertising has a positive impact on economies, while others claim that it makes people dissatisfied with their identities and possessions and thus has an adverse social effect. I agree with the former opinion because advertisers are very good at creating desire for the products they are selling.

For one thing, everything in advertisements appears so fancy. For example, in an Apple commercial, a young man who is using the latest iPhone on the subway looks so cool. After watching the commercial, people may think that their current phones are ugly and outdated. They may even feel embarrassed to use them. However, I do not think advertising is to blame for their insecurity. The fact that a person is easily influenced by advertising is an indication that they are emotionally vulnerable and have a poor sense of self-worth. In other words, they were already insecure before they watched the advertisement, which only played upon their feelings of insecurity.

On the other hand, advertisements can create the desire in consumers to buy products. For instance, many lingerie manufacturers use sex models in their commercials to send women the message that if they wear their lingerie, they can be as sexy as those models. The message arouses their desire to become more attractive and as a result, they purchase it even though they do not need any. Thus, I think advertising is a major economic driver. Without it, many products would not sell well, which in turn would affect employment.

In conclusion, even though what appears in advertisements always looks much better than what people already have, I do not think this is the reason why many people are dissatisfied with their current situation. In fact, advertising contributes greatly to economic growth because it plants a seed of desire in consumers' minds to buy things.

Billboards, leaflets and TV commercials are pervasive in everyday life that constantly expose the average person to the latest and greatest products and services in the market. While applauding their incredible effectiveness in raising public awareness, critics point out that advertising can be bad for our wellbeing, whether or not we realize it.

Some people say that advertising is essential to the economy and should be given free rein, and I can understand their point of view. Companies selling popular products probably recognize the power of repeated exposure, without which even the most cutting-edge or easy-to-use items cannot translate into substantial sales figures. Workers in related businesses would also stress the importance of product promotion, as it creates a large number of jobs from graphic design to copy editing. Such economic benefits are, in my opinion, largely irrelevant to the average consumer, so allowing the full range of adverts to occupy people’s time and attention may not be in their best interest.

There are other people who argue against advertising mainly for the sense of inadequacy it generates, a position that I can side with. Researchers warn that doubling spending on advertising would result in a significant drop in life satisfaction, a sizable consequence even when compared with bad life events like divorce and unemployment. Apart from research findings, it is common experience to watch beautifully crafted advertisements and feel anxious about not being able to afford the lifestyle presented on screen. I think this fabricated sense of inspiration and constant social comparison can do emotional harm to the average person, rendering the economic benefits insignificant in the long run.

To conclude, despite the obvious financial gains that advertising brings, its negative impacts on our psychological wellbeing can be overwhelming for society, especially in the absence of any regulation or restriction. It is therefore crucial for government authorities, manufacturers and advertising agencies to work together to maximize the economic benefits while minimizing its social costs.

People today are often bombarded with various advertisements on television, in newspapers, and on running buses or subways. While some believe advertising delivers powerful economic benefits, others argue it makes them unhappy instead. Generally, I think there is some truth in both views.

Those who claim advertising stimulates economic growth point out that consumer spending determines the future of the economy while advertising motivates people to spend more. As advertising provides useful information to consumers, and with more information about the features of the product and service choices offered, consumers and businesses usually choose to purchase more. By encouraging more buying, advertising generates a net gain in direct sales and indirect sales among different levels of economic activity, as the sales ripple through the whole economy. Another economic benefit of advertising is in its role of supporting employment. As a result of economic activities, advertising provides jobs not only in the production of advertisements but also in the wider economy, such as in hospitality industry. Therefore, advertising creates consumer demand on the one hand and increases purchasing power on the other hand.

Nevertheless, some people assert that too much exposure to advertising imposes stress on themselves. The advertisers seem to have a deep insight into consumers’ psychology and behavior which are taken advantage of in advertising to make their products whether a piece of clothes or a kind of snack more appealing to the targeted audience. As a consequence, consumers are very likely to feel inferior about their current situation and fall prey to whatever is advertised, regardless of the price and the function. This is especially true with the boom of social media sensation in advertisements. The public tend to compare themselves to their peers who lead a more materially comfortable life. In this case, people are driven to shop more but feel less.

In conclusion, experience suggests that advertising does contribute massively to economic growth, but the fact also remains that self-affirmation and satisfaction with life do not necessarily come from one’s consumption habit.
