WARM-UP/REVIEW (5 minutes)

Aim: To motivate students and help students sing the previous song.

*Let’s sing: Sing the song “What’s in the classroom” from Lesson 3, page 90 (Track 146)

- Play the recording for students to listen to the song.

- Play the recording again. Ask students to sing along.

- Call some students sing the song for the class. The rest of the class clap their hands.

- Ask different students to say something about their classroom. Encourage as many comments as possible, e.g. There are posters. There’s a computer. There are books.

- Give comments. Praise students.

- Task uncompleted: Students are unable to sing the song.

- Listen to the song.

- Listen to the song again. Sing along.

- Sing the song for the class.

PRESENTATION (10 minutes)

Aim: To help students look at the picture and say school things.

*Lead-in: Use the pictures on page 92

- Point to the picture of the boy at the top of the text and explain that his name is Phong.

- Ask students to look at the pictures. Ask what they think the text is about (Phong is describing his school).

- Encourage students to make predictions about Phong’s school, e.g. There are pictures in the classroom. There are boys and girls in the class.

- Ask students whether it looks like their school.

- Give feedback.

*Point to things you can see in a school. Say the words. (Page 92)

- Ask students to work in pairs, taking turns pointing to the classroom objects and saying the words.

- Call students to say the words for the class.

- Check students’ pronunciation.

Aim: To help students read and understand a text describing pictures and improve listening and reading skills.

*Listen and read. (Track 149)

- Tell students that they are going to hear a recording. Explain that it doesn’t matter if they don’t understand every word, but they should look for words they do know.

- Play the recording for students to follow in their books.

- Play the recording a second time. Answer any questions.

- Ask questions to check comprehension, e.g. What school does Phong go to? What’s in the classroom?

- Call on some students to read the text describing pictures.

- Check students’ pronunciation. Give feedback.
