As there are increasingly more female leaders around the world, some people believe that this would lead to a more peaceful world, as opposed to the past violence allowed by male leaders. I disagree with this since the problem is not so much an issue between genders, but rather an issue of power; more specifically, power is what corrupts people. 

Many are quick to point out that in the past, the aggressiveness of many male leaders is what has led to war and conflicts. In order to display their masculinity, and to keep up an image of a patriarchal society, male leaders might act tough in order to gather the support of the populace. Female leaders, on the other hand, might display more sympathetic and diplomatic gestures and are less likely to resort to violence if disputes are to arise. In this way, they can garner public support by providing for their needs and wants in a more peaceful manner. 

On the other hand, if we look closely at history, we can see that this is not true. This suggests that it is not gender, but rather power, that drives aggressive behavior. Throughout history, for example, it has been shown that queens were statistically more likely to wage war than kings. A drive to secure resources is universal, and it could be argued that women might even be more observant in these sorts of situations to know when to wage war. As such, simply changing what sex a leader is will not lead to a safer world - rather, it is important to ensure that there are avenues of cross-country collaboration.

Overall, therefore, it could be argued that since power is what drives conflict, gender does not matter, and even if society was governed by all-female actors, the result would likely look the same when compared to a world led by men.

It is true that men have always been dominating the world of politics. Given the many wars throughout the history of mankind, many people believe that the world would become a better place for everyone if it were run by women. In this essay, however, I will challenge this school of thought.

Granted, one might argue that men are generally more aggressive by nature and therefore they often resort to violence to achieve what they want. However, to say that the world would be better governed by female politicians is to ignore the very fact that the ability to run a country lies in leaders’ vision, skills and mindset, to name just a few. These vary much more significantly at an individual level rather than a gender one. In other words, many male politicians are caring and restlessly try to seek ways to resolve conflicts, while some female leaders might be determined to seek vengeance or control at the cost of their citizens’ lives.

To add further credence to my assertion, I note that war is primarily caused by human greed and differing ideologies. With regard to the former, this characteristic is not confined to only males, as we see, for example in the significant number of female warlords over the course of recorded history in Egypt and many other civilizations. Another factor is differences in opinions where one might believe that his or her race is superior to the other or others, leading to genocides. Again, this has little to do with one’s gender but his or her beliefs.

In conclusion, the negative stereotypical view towards male leaders, depicting them as violent or aggressive, should not be supported. I take this view on account of the fact that war and conflicts often result from one’s greed and differences in ideologies and that by no means is the ability to rule a nation found in one’s gender.

A recent and common viewpoint agrees that male dominance in leadership has often resulted in chaotic results and hence, it is more peaceful if women take the lead. However, I personally disagree with such a suggestion and my explanations will be expressed in this essay.

The initial reason why I believe men can exercise more decent leadership is that they are less affected by emotion. In fact, scientists believe that male’s emotional cortex is less active, therefore they are hardwired to mental stability, leading to the ability to make more rational decisions. Women leaders, on the other hand, have expressed evident tendencies where their own emotional instability compromised leadership. Take the current series of US presidential debates as an example, in which male candidates build arguments on regulations, while female opponents tilted significantly towards raising awareness on aggressive language towards fellow female professionals and themselves, which is an indicator of emotions taking control.

In accompany with the said arguments, it can also be pointed out that the female’s physical limits in stress coping capacity acts as a deterrent for them to succeed at leadership positions. Biologically speaking, women’s physical capacity for stress endurance has been proven to be not as good as their male counterparts. Therefore, prolonged and challenging situations, which are a normal feature for any leadership role, demand equally persistent cognitive clarity that the female physicality is rarely able to handle. To be more specific, men often outnumber women in leadership positions which require the superior stress dealing physicality such as CEO or hedge fund manager. Also, it is an undeniable fact that during mankind’s history, the majority of leaders during chaotic periods are often men like George Washington or Winston Churchill.

To conclude, I strongly believe that the role of leadership should be more suitable for men as they are more logical at decision making and more resilient in coping with high and long tension.

Many people think that women would make the world better and bring about world peace if they led the world. I do not agree with this idea.

The main reason to encourage political empowerment among women as the leader of the world is the difference between their leadership style and men’s. Men tend to gravitate to the hard power of command and resort violence to reach their goals while women often prefer the soft power of collaboration, persuasion and non-violent ways to pursue their ends. Therefore, it is believed that sustainable peace needs women’s leadership and participation at all levels of decision-making. However, throughout history, women leaders have been extremely rare, and these cases are inadequate to prove that women, even provided that they governed the world, would bring world peace.

In my opinion, the world would be no different even when women are in the driving seat. Firstly, there are many historical examples of instability created by women having political power. One is that Vo Tac Thien empress of ancient China seized power in the surrounding countries to bring peace and enlightenment; or, Margaret Thatcher, PM of England deployed troops to defense against Argentina. Of course, we should not and could not judge whether they are warmongers or not, but their reasons for going on the offensive seem to be exactly what male leaders also usually claimed when declaring a war. Second, the truth is that power now is no longer concentrated in the hands of a small group of leaders, and the crucial political decision such as to be in or stay out of war is often formulated from a referendum. In other words, these decisions between peace or hostilities simply reflect the public opinion rather than being determined by the leader’ dispositions.

In conclusion, although I do not refuse to empower women, I think the idea that women as world leaders can bring a more peaceful world is intuitive. The fact is that leaders would make decisions similarly no matter what their gender is.

Many are of the opinion the male inclination towards violence is the root of many international conflicts and societies ruled by women might be more peaceful. In my opinion, this is likely true.

The reason that some oppose this seemingly sexist viewpoint is based on past examples of female leaders. The sample size is much smaller but leaders like Margaret Thatcher, Cleopatra, Hilary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Queen Elisabeth I, Joan d’Arc and countless others have started, maintained, and escalated violent conflicts. There are very few examples of peaceful female leaders and those that exist can be matched proportionally with male leaders. The claim that women are more peaceful is not supported by historical evidence. A major caveat is that these are the exceptions and women rulers have held power in a world otherwise dominated by male hierarchy. It is impossible to know how peaceful the world would be if women held the majority of powerful positions.

Furthermore, men are naturally predisposed towards aggression. This stems from both biology and society. Men produce more testosterone than women and this has been shown to increase aggressive tendencies and violent behaviour. Men can curb this instinct, but it has the potential to undermine their better nature at any moment. There are also societal forces at work that play on men’s pride. From a young age, boys are raised to be tough, to not back down, to not compromise and to idealise violent heroes. The majority of male role models are violent, ranging from historic figures to action stars and even videogame characters. It is hard to disentangle the roles of nature and nurture clearly, but the end product of their combination is clear for both males and females.

In conclusion, males are more violent, and women would likely be more peaceful given the opportunity to rule widely. The question of the desirability of ending all conflicts and their global impact is another matter.

Most of the countries in the world are led by men, only a few countries are governed by women. I personally think that whether a government or a leadership brings violence or peace has nothing to do with the gender of the leader.

It is generally believed that women have gentler personality than men in the way they act. But it does not guarantee that if a woman leads a country or a society, they can prevent conflicts, clash or violence from happening because a leader is not the only party causing or triggering conflicts. In running her government and taking a decision or a policy, a female leader cooperates with and discusses a lot with many other parties so I do not think that her mother figure will come first in dealing with various complicated problems her government is facing. Instead, she cannot give priority to her feminine feeling (caring, loving, affecting, etc.) in policy making. A leader, either female or male, needs to take action in accordance with the situation. That is why I believe that the gender of a leader makes no difference in this issue. Many countries like Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan were governed by female leaders and yet the conflict and violence increased during their time, and this is a clear indication that a female leader cannot guarantee and peaceful society.

Moreover, conflicts often happen because of inability or bad leadership skill of a leader in running his or her leadership. In any country, the incapability of leaders, regardless of their gender, causes many problems leading to the unsatisfactory of people and the decrease in people’s trust level to the government, both of which are likely to result in chaos, clash, and conflict. I am convinced that everyone will agree that capability and leadership skills have nothing to do with gender. It is ridiculous to judge that men have a better capability in leading an organisation than women, or vice versa. Besides, the success and the failure of an organisation or a government are determined not only by the leader but also the staff and the cabinet. No matter how capable the leader is, he or she will not be able to execute his or her government programs to bring prosperity for his or her people and to satisfy them if he or she does not have a good team.

In conclusion, the ability of a country to avoid and prevent conflict and violence depends on the capability of the leader, regardless of gender, to run the country. It is not wise to say that men with their masculinity bring violence and none can guarantee that women with their femininity will be able to bring peace for people.
