I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
1. Knowledge and skills
- pronounce the sound of the letter I/i in isolation and in words chicken, fish, chips and milk correctly.
- say the words chicken, fish, chips and milk correctly.
2. Competences
- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks
- Self-control & independent learning: perform pointing and saying task

- Show the hard work and effort in performing the tasks
- Get the knowledge about healthy food and build a good eating habit

III. PROCEDURES
1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (5 mins)
a. Objectives:
- To create a friendly and lively atmosphere in the classroom.
b. Content:
- Game: Hungry Bobby / Game: Pass the ball
c. Expected outcomes:
- Pupils can revise the letter and the sound D/d.

* Option 1: Game: Hungry Bobby (ppt) - Show a picture covered partly by a wheel turning 360° clockwise. - Call 1 pupil from each team in turn. Pupils look and say the word. The fastest team gets 2 stars, the others get 1 star. - Have the whole class read the word out loud at the end of a turn. * Option 2: Game: Pass the ball! - Greet the class. Encourage pupils to respond to your greeting. - Play the music, pupils in each team take turns passing the ball. When the music ends, 3 pupils holding the ball stand up and say the words have the sound D/d. - Ask pupils to introduce themselves. - Introduce the new Unit 5: At the fish and chip shop. |

2. ACTIVITY 1: EXPLORATION (10 mins)
a. Objectives:
- Pupils will be able to pronounce the sound of the letter I/i in isolation and in the words chicken, fish, chips and milk correctly.
b. Content:
- Activity 1. Listen and repeat.
c. Expected outcomes:
- Pupils can pronounce the sound of letter I/i and all the words chicken, fish, chips, milk correctly and confidently.

Step 1: Open the book or access to hoclieu.vn. Have pupils look at the picture, saying Look at the picture, please! and answer some questions such as What can you see? Can you seechips?. Draw pupils’ attention to the words next to the things/pets and the colour of the letter I/i. Check comprehension. Step 2: Ask pupils to point to the letter I/i. Have them listen and repeat the sound of the letter I/i (saying Listen and repeat, please!) more than once, if necessary. Step 3: Tell pupils to point to the chicken and the word chicken, saying Point to the chicken and the word “chicken”, please! Ask them to listen and repeat the word, saying Listen and repeat, please! Step 4: Follow the same procedure with the chips, the fish and the milk. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Step 5: Play the recording again and have them listen, point to the letter I/i, the words chicken, chips, fish, milk and repeat until they feel confident. Step 6: Play the recording again and call a few pupils to say the letter I/i, and the words chicken, chips, fish and milk in front of the class (saying Good job! when they perform well). |

Cultural note: Fish & chips (fish and chips) pronounced as /fi∫ ǝn t∫ip/ has been a favourite food in Great Britain for hundreds of years and has become part of British food culture. Fish & chips is a hot dish consisting of fried fish in batter served with chips. A fish & chip shop is a form of a fast food restaurant that specialises in selling fried fish & chips. Usually, fish & chip shops provide takeaway service, although some have seating facilities. Fish & chip shops may also sell other foods, such as burgers, chicken, salad, ... |

- To help pupils identify the letter I/i and the things and say the sound of letter I/i and the words chicken, fish, chips and milk.

- Activity 2. Point and say.
c. Expected outcomes:
- Pupils can correctly point and say the sound I/i, the things and words chicken, fish, chips and milk.
- Pupils can understand thata fish and chip shop means a fast food restaurant.

Step 1: Have pupils look at the picture again (Student’s book, p. 23 or hoclieu.vn) or at Poster for Unit 5, saying Look at the picture on Page 23, please! Ask them to describe the picture again (in Vietnamese). Draw their attention to the letter I/i, the boy and the things, if necessary. Step 2: Get them to point to the letter I/i and say it, saying Point to the letter I/i and say, please! Step 3: Let them point to the chicken and say the word chicken, saying Point to the chicken and say the word, please! Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task. Step 4: Follow the same procedure with other things (chicken, fish, milk). Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task. Step 5: Ask pupils to work in pairs or in groups to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter I/i and the words. Go around and offer help or correct pronunciation, if necessary. Step 6:Invite two or three pupils to point to the picture and say the sound of the letter and the words in front of the class. If they performed well, praise them, saying Well done! |
