I. OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

1. Knowledge and skills

- use “It’s a red _____.” to introduce things

- sing a song with the structures “I have______.”, “He has_______.” and “It’s a red _____.”.

2. Competences

- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks

- Self-control & independent learning: perform listening task, singing

3. Attributes

- Show confidence in performing a rap by using appropriate gestures and intonation when singing the song.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (5 mins)

a. Objectives:

- To create a friendly and lively atmosphere in the classroom.

b. Content:

- Let’s chant.

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils can say the chant and do actions with the teacherconfidently.

* Option 1: Let’s chant. (ppt)

- Pupils say the chant together.

- Teacher sticks flashcards of pen, pencil, desk, and bell on the board.

- Teacher says e – e – bell following the chant rhythm. Pupils repeat.

- Individual check: Teacher points to a picture, pupils say the words with the chant rhythm.

- Faster pupils get more stars for their team.

* Option 2:

- Let two or three pupils point to the pictures in Listen and tick (p. 27) and say the sentences, e.g. 1a: I have a red bell. 1b: I have a red pen.

- Say the chant together.

- Teacher sticks flashcards of pen, pencil, desk, and bell on the board.

- Repeat the chant rhythm.

- Say the words with the chant rhythm.

- Faster pupils get more stars for their team.

- Point to the pictures in Listen and tick (p. 27) and say the sentences, e.g. 1a: I have a red bell. 1b: I have a red pen.

There are two questions. Question 1 includes two pictures: a. a bell, b. a pen. Question 2 consists of two pictures: a. a pen, b. a pencil.

2. ACTIVITY 1: KNOWLEDGE CONSTRUCTION (10 mins)

a. Objectives:

- Pupils will be able to listen and repeat the sentence “It’s a red pen”.

b. Content:

- Activity 6. Listen and repeat.

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils can say the sentences correctly and confidently.

- Pupils can understand the sentences and useIt’s a red____.” to introduce their things.

Activity 6. Listen and repeat.

Step 1: Have pupils look at the picture, saying Look the picture, please! Point to the pen, saying What is it? It’s a pen. Yes, it’s a red pen.

Step 2: Point to the sentence “It’s a red pen.”, saying Look at the sentence “It’s a red pen.”, please! Explain the meaning of the sentence and how it is used. Check comprehension.

Step 3: Get pupils to look at the sentence It’s a red pen. Play the recording several times for them to listen and repeat, saying Now listen and repeat, please! Correct pronunciation, if necessary.

Step 4: Show a real red pen (or a flashcard of a red pen) and ask pupils to look at it, saying Look at the pen, please! It’s red. Now say “It’s a red pen.” Let them listen and repeat the sentence twice, saying Listen and repeat, please!

Step 5: Ask pupils to point to the sentence and say it, saying Point and say, please! Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task.

Step 6: Invite a few pupils to listen and repeat the sentence “It’s a red pen.” in front of the class. Correct pronunciation.

- Listen and repeat several times.

- Say the sentences in front of the class.

3. ACTIVITY 2: PRACTICE (10 mins)

a. Objectives:

- Pupils will be able to introduce things, using “It’s a red ____.”.

b. Content:

- Activity 7. Let’s talk.

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils can introduce their things using “It’s a red ____.”confidently, correctly.

Activity 7. Let’s talk.

Step 1: Have pupils look at the bubble to understand how the language is used (It’s a red _____.) Explain the meaning of the sentence, if necessary.

Step 2: Ask them to look at the pictures to identify the things. Then let them point to the pictures and say the words, saying Point and say, please! Check comprehension.

Step 3: Point to Picture a and model the task, using the expression in the bubble and the word for the picture. E.g. It’s a red pencil. Then ask pupils to say the sentence “It’s a red pencil.” in chorus and individually. Correct pronunciation, if necessary.

Step 4: Follow the same procedure with Pictures b, c, d by getting pupils to point to the pictures and introduce the things. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task.

Step 5: If time allows, invite some pupils to point to the pictures and say the sentences in front of the class, saying Well done! if they performed well.

- Look at the bubble and listen to the teacher.

- Answer the questions.

- Work as an individual.

- Look at the picture and practise the sentence “It’s a red _____.”

- Come to the board and say the sentence, using pictures in the book.

There are two parts in the activity. In part 1, there is a bubble which contains the structure “It’s a red _____.” In part 2, there are four pictures: a. a red pencil, b. a red pen, c. a red desk, d. a red bell.

4. ACTIVITY 3: PRACTICE (10 mins)

a. Objectives:

- Pupils will be able to sing a song with the structures I have ______.”, “ He has______.”, “It’s a red ______.”.

b. Content:

- Activity 8. Let’s sing.

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils can sing the song with correct pronunciation, natural tune/ rhythm and sweet melody.

- Pupils can revise the structures: I have____., He has______., It’s a red______.”.
