I. OBJECTIVES

By the end of Review 1, pupils will be able to:

2. Competences

Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete learning tasks.

- Show confidence by role playing the story, using gestures and intonation.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (10 mins)

a. Objectives:

- To create a friendly and lively atmosphere in the classroom.

- To revise the sounds and words.

b. Content:

- Game: Guess the words

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils recall vocabulary from the previous lessons by playing a game.

d. Organization:

Game: Guess the words

- Greet the class and encourage pupils to respond to your greeting.

- Show on the screen the title of the game Guess the words.

- Show slides with words:

ball, bike, Bill, book

cake, car, cat, cup

apple, bag, can, hat

desk, dog, door, duck

- Ask pupils: What do you see in the picture? Do you see the ball?

- Ask pupils (or some pupils) to repeat the words.

- Follow the same procedure until the last word.

- Give comments and correct pupils’ pronunciations.

- Greet teacher.

- Answer the teacher’s questions.

- Repeat the words.

- Some pupils read the words by themselves.

The words and the sounds of the game:

2. ACTIVITY 1: PRACTICE (15 mins)

a. Objectives:

- To help pupils understand the whole story.

b. Content:

- Activity 1. Listen and repeat.

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils can identify the words and read them with correct pronunciation.

Step 1: Point to a picture of the boy, the girl, and the speech bubbles. Introduce the two new characters: Phil and Sue. Help pupils identify them (their names, genders, clothes, ...) Ask pupils some questions such as: What are they doing? Check comprehension. Move around and help weak pupils to complete the task.

Step 2: Have pupils look at Picture 1 and describe the picture. Draw pupils’ attention to the boy (Phil), the girl (Sue) and the bubbles.

Step 3: Play the recording several times for pupils to listen and repeat the sentences in the bubbles of Picture 1.

Step 4: Follow the same procedure with Pictures 2, 3 and 4. Correct pronunciation, if necessary. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to listen.

Step 5: Play the recording of the whole story several times for pupils to listen, point to the speech bubbles and repeat again.

Step 6: Invite some pairs of pupils to listen to the recording and repeat the story in front of the class. Encourage pupils to use gestures, face expressions, ... when they repeat the story.

Extension: After pupils remembered the story, have them role play it. Model with one pupil and ask other pupilsto observe. Ask pupils to work in pairs to act out without looking at the book. Invite some pairs to go to the board and role play.

- Look at the picture and two new characters.

- Look at the pictures and answer the teacher's questions.

- Look at picture 1.

- Look at picture 1, listen to the recording and repeat the sentences in the bubbles of Picture 1.

- Look at Picture 2, 3, 4, listen to the recording and repeat the sentences in the bubbles.

- Listen, point to the speech bubbles and repeat again.

- Pay attention when the pairs listen to them.

- Role play.

- Work in pairs to act out without looking at the book.

- Some pairs go to the board and role play.

The picture of Phil and Sue greeting and introducing themselves. The four pictures of the story: Picture 1. Phil and Sue are greeting each other and introducing themselves. Picture 2. Phil and Sue are introducing their pets. Picture 3. Phil and Sue are talking about their things. Picture 4. While Phil and Sue are talking about their things, Phil’s dog catches Sue’s cake and runs away.

3. ACTIVITY 2: PRACTICE (7 mins)

a. Objectives:

- To help pupils identify things and animals

b. Content:

- Activity 2. Look and circle.

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils can identify things and animals.

Step 1: Have pupils look at four pictures and circle the words which all appear in the story.

Step 2: Ask pupils to identify the thing/ animals by asking some questions such as What can you see in the pictures? Can you see the dog? Say the word, please! Ask pupils to repeat the words several times. Show on the screen the picture of a dog and have the word “dog” circled as an example.

Step 3: Ask pupils to look at the other pictures and circle the words in the chain, giving pupils time to do the work. Give further support to those pupils who feel it is difficult to do the task.

Step 4: Invite some pupils to show their answers. Check and correct the answers.

- Look at the pictures.

- Answer the teacher’s questions.

- Repeat the words.

- Look at the other pictures and circle the words in the chain, finish their work.

- Show their answers.

- Pictures of a dog, a book, a cat and a duck.

- A chain of the eight words pupils have learnt from Unit 1 to Unit 4: dog, cake, cat, duck, book, can, car, ball.

e. Assessment

4. FUN CORNER AND WRAP-UP (3 mins)
