I. OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:

1. Knowledge and skills

- repeat and understand a short story.

- identify and say the letters, sounds and words they have learnt with correct pronunciation.

- read the learnt words.

III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (5 mins)

a. Objectives:

- To create a friendly and lively atmosphere in the classroom.

- To revise the previous lesson.

- Pupils review words from Unit 9 to Unit 12.

2. ACTIVITY 1: PRACTICE (8 mins)

a. Objectives:

- Pupils have an opportunity to revise some learnt phrases: two locks, three clocks, four pots, five monkeys.

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils can identify the words and read them with correct pronunciation.

Step 1: Have pupils look at the pictures of question 1 and ask them to point to pairs of pictures and say the words. Draw pupils’ attention to the boxes next to the letters a and letter b.

Step 2: Invite some pupils to point to the pictures and say the words aloud.

Step 3: Play the recording, ask pupils to listen and tick the correct box. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task.

Step 4: Follow the same procedure with the pictures of questions 2 and 3. Set a time limit for pupils to swap and check the answers.

Step 5: Invite some pupils to the front of the class to point to the pictures and say what they have circled.

- Listen and tick the correct box.

- Work in pairs to compare their answers.

- Show their work and say the phrases in front of the class.

There are three questions (1, 2 and 3) in this activity. Question 1 includes the pictures: a. a window, b. a turtle. Question 2 includes the pictures: a. a tiger, b. a teddy bear. Question 3 includes the pictures: a. a face, b. a foot.

a. Objectives:

- Pupils remember the words they have learnt in the previous units.

b. Content:

- Activity 2. Listen and circle.

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils can identify things and animals and say the words correctly.

Step 1: Have pupils look at the pairs of letters and practice saying the letter names and letter sounds in pairs. Invite some pupils to say the letters and the sounds in front of the class.

Step 2: Play the recording, ask pupils to listen and circle the letters of the sounds. Have pupils listen at least twice.

Step 3: Ask pupils to swap and check the answers. Play the recording again for them to check, if necessary. Invite some pupils to say the sounds they have circled. Confirm the correct answers.

Step 4: Put all the pictures away and have Pupils say out the number of things/ animals in the pictures. Move around and correct their pronunciation, if necessary.

- Look at the letters and say the letter names and sounds several times in pairs.

- Listen and circle the letters of the sounds.

- Swap and check the answers.

- Show their answers.

- Say the number from their memory.

There are four pairs of letters (1. o and w; 2. l and n; 3. f and b; 4. d and t).

4. ACTIVITY 3: PRACTICE (7 mins)

a. Objectives:

- Pupils can identify things and animals and say the words correctly.

Step 1: Have pupils look at Picture 1 and say what they can see. Invite some pupils to point to the pictures and say the words in front of the class (e.g., 1.a lake, 2. the sun, …).

Step 2: Play the recording, ask pupils to listen and put a tick or cross. Have pupils listen at least twice.

Step 3: Follow the same procedure with the other three pictures.

Step 4: Ask pupils to swap and check the answers. Play the recording again for them to check, if necessary.

Step 5: Invite some pupils to say the sounds they have heard. Confirm the correct answers.

- Look at the pictures and answer the questions.

- Listen and put a tick or cross.

- Follow the teacher's instructions.

The activity consists of four pictures:
