Verb + (Object) + TO V trong tiếng Anh
A. V + TO V hoặc Object + TO V
Dưới đây là một số động từ có thể được theo sau bởi to + động từ nguyên thể hoặc được theo sau bởi tân ngữ + to + động từ nguyên thể:

Khi được theo sau bởi Verb + to
- We expected to be late.
(Chúng tôi nghĩ là chúng tôi sẽ trễ.)
- Would you like to go now?
(Bạn có muốn đi bây giờ không?)
- He doesn't want to know.
(Anh ấy không muốn biết.)
Khi được theo sau bởi verb+object+to
- We expected Tom to be late.
(Chúng tôi nghĩ là Tom sẽ trễ.)
- Would you like me to go now?
(Bạn có muốn tôi đi bây giờ không?)
- He doesn't want anybody to know.
(Anh ấy không muốn một ai biết hết.)
Ghi chú
1. Bạn cẩn thận khi sử dụng động từ want. KHÔNG nói want that
- Do you want me to come with you? (KHÔNG nói 'Do you want that I come')
(Anh có muốn đến với em không?
2. Sau động từ help, bạn có thể sử dụng động từ nguyên thể có hay không có to đều được.
Ví dụ:
- Can you help me to move this table?
hoặc
Can you help me move this table?
(Bạn có thể giúp tôi dời cái bàn này được không?)
B. Các động từ được theo sau bởi Object + To ...
Các động từ sau có cấu trúc Verb + object + to ...
tell nói, kể | order ra lệnh
remind nhắc nhở | warn nhắc, cảnh cáo
force ép buộc | invite mời
enable có khả năng | persuade thuyết phục
teach dạy | get (=persuade, arrange for) thuyết phục, nhờ
Ví dụ:
- Can you remind me to phone Ann tomorrow?
(Bạn có thể nhắc tôi gọi điện cho Ann vào ngày mai được không?)
- Who taught you to drive?
(Ai đã dạy anh lái xe?)
- I didn't move the piano by myself. I got somebody to help me.
(Tôi đã không tự dời được chiếc piano. Tôi đã nhờ một người giúp tôi.)
- Jim said that the switch was dangerous and warned me not to touch it.
(Jim đã nói cái công tắc là không an toàn và nhắc tôi không chạm vào nó.)
Trong ví dụ sau, động từ ở dạng bị động (Passive):
- I was warned not to touch the switch.
(Tôi đã được lưu ý là không chạm vào công tắc.)
Ghi chú: Bạn không được sử dụng động từ suggest với cấu trúc verb + object + to:
- Jane suggested that I should buy a car. (KHÔNG nói 'Jane suggested me to buy')
(Jane đã đề nghị tôi mua một chiếc xe hơi.)

C. Các động từ được theo sau bởi V + V-ing hoặc V + O + TO

Sau các động từ này, bạn có thể sử dụng một trong hai cấu trúc sau:
V + V-ing (không có tân ngữ)
- I wouldn't recommend staying in that hotel.
(Tôi không đề nghị ở lại khách sạn đó.)
- She doesn't allow smoking in the house.
(Cô ấy không cho phép hút thuốc trong nhà.)
V + O + to
- I wouldn't recommend anybody to stay in that hotel.
(Tôi không khuyên ai đến khách sạn đó.)
- She doesn't allow us to smoke in the house.
(Cô ấy không cho phép tôi hút thuốc trong nhà.)
So sánh các ví dụ trên với cấu trúc bị động: (be) allowed:
- Smoking isn't allowed in the house.
(Hút thuốc ở trong nhà bị cấm.)
- We aren't allowed to smoke in the house.
(Chúng tôi không được phép hút thuốc trong nhà.)
D. Hai động từ make và let
Hai động từ make và let đi với cấu trúc V + O + Infinitive (không có to)
Ví dụ:
- The customs officer made Sally open her case. (KHÔNG nói 'to open')
(Các nhân viên hải quan đã buộc Sally mở vali của cô ấy.)
- Hot weather makes me feel tired. (causes me to feel tired)
(Thời tiết nóng nực làm tôi cảm thấy mệt mỏi.)
- Her parents wouldn't let her go out alone. (=wouldn't allow her to go out)
(Cha mẹ cô ấy sẽ không cho phép cô ấy ra khỏi nhà một mình.)
- Let me carry your bag for you.
(Hãy để tôi mang túi xách cho anh.)
Chúng ta nói "make somebody do ..." (KHÔNG nói "to do"), nhưng dạng bị động là (be) made to do ... (có to).
Ví dụ:
- Sally was made to open her case. (by the customs officer)
(Sally đã bị buộc phải mở vali.)

Exercise 1. The following sentences all have a verb + object + to + infinitive structure. Complete each sentence by putting the words in brackets into the correct form.
