What would the world be like without Shakespeare or the Olympics? While medical care and education are perhaps the highest causes to which money can be contributed, the arts and athletics are in some ways just as valuable. So, to ask the government to not extend support to these two areas could be just as detrimental to the welfare of society as the lack of sufficient health care and education.

The Romans believed in “mens sana in corpore sano”. In short, there is indeed a correlation between a healthy body and a healthy mind. When we are healthy, we feel better and so are more likely to be productive academically. Plus, the practice of sports can also teach us the very same discipline we need for our studies. Why even a brisk walk or watching an exciting athletic match can refresh the mind for greater work. Moreover, sports can serve to create healthier bodies, which in turn would serve as a form of “preventive medicine” thereby cutting down on medical costs. In the same vein, the arts are known to induce a sense of well-being in performers and audience alike, reducing mental problems and their associated physical manifestations and again, medical costs. As such, building theatres and stadiums, which spur interest in the arts and sports respectively, actually would be practically identical to spending money on medical care and education!

Now I realize the question specifically addresses the building of theatres and sports stadiums by government. Some people would contend athletics, and the arts can still be enjoyed and practiced without such constructions. I would hazard that these buildings stand as the altars to the sports and arts worlds, inspiring would-be athletes and performers. Without such venues where would sports spectators and music aficionados be able to enjoy these events? Now some other people would also say business could support their construction, but we know the avarice of business could very likely jeopardize the lofty spirit of athletics and the arts just as well. Therefore, allowing the government to retain some say in the matter on behalf of the people would, I believe, be in the best interest of the people.

In short, as long as the government does not go overboard in its expenditures for these buildings and uses such venues for the benefit of all, then, as mentioned above, people will benefit in terms of both medical care and education as well. This is not to say the government should neglect medical care and education, but rather to think of this not as an either-or choice but as a win-win situation for all.

It is a highly debatable issue whether the government should spend money on medicine and education rather than on theatres and sports stadiums. In my opinion, all these things are important for the people and therefore, the government should allocate equal resources for both.

Basic medical care is very important for the general public. If people are healthy, there will be more productivity at work and the country will prosper as a whole. There are many people who live below the poverty line, and it is the government’s responsibility that they receive medical aid whenever needed. There are also the elderly who have paid taxes throughout their working life and now need good medical care.

Good education facilities are also the duty of the government. Today, there are a number of children from deprived backgrounds who get substandard education. They would definitely require a high quality of education if they were to succeed in later life. What is more, an educated society has less crime and violence, and the country gets good recognition in the whole world if its people are educated.

On the other hand, theatres and sports stadiums are equally essential for people. Art and entertainment are also a basic human need. Theatrical shows provide entertainment and at the same time preserve our culture and tradition. Our artists earn a name and fame for our country. Sports stadiums, similarly, attract millions of spectators to watch matches every year. Many more millions watch games on television, read about them in newspapers, and discuss them with their friends. Therefore, we cannot say that these are unnecessary expenditures and therefore the government should ignore them.

To put it in a nutshell, I pen down saying that medicine and education are needs that we recognize, but theatrical or sports events are also basic needs. Therefore, governments should allocate resources for both these things.

Modern era is hectic in nature. All are in a hurry to make money. As a result of scientific advancements, life expectancy increased. Amusement parks and relaxation centers like parks and theatres appearing day by day. Some people believe that government spending on building theatres and sport stadium is utterly a waste, and the expenditure should be on health care and education.

In one hand government income should mainly focus on healthcare and education. If they do not consider these areas our life will be in trouble. For instance, if money is not spent on roads, traveling would become terrific, and energy and time will be wasted. The health condition of the population gets in trouble if they do not get adequate medical care. If we do not spend legacy on school, our children do not be properly educated. Moreover, if governments spend less on these important sectors, that would negatively affect the poor, those are the needy for these facilities.

In contrast, theatres and sport stadium provide great pleasures to the populace. To begin with, most of the theatres and stadiums need huge amounts of money and without government aid it cannot begin. In their swamped life people get relaxed and enthusiastic by these facilities. In addition, a significant amount of government revenue is generated from these entertainments. For instance, by arranging cricket matches, the government can get considerable ticket prices and taxes. This money can be utilized for public welfare such as building new hospitals or repairing the roads.

After analyzing both of these views, I feel that government expenditure on healthcare and education is a priority, while theatres and stadiums are also influencing the well-being of the population. So, the government should spend money on both of these sectors.
