I. OBJECTIVES
By the end of this lesson, pupils will be able to:
1. Knowledge and skills
- stress the correct words in sentences I’ll 'do the 'shopping for 'Tet. and We’ll 'decorate our 'house with 'flowers.;
- identify and underline the missing stressed word in four sentences, and to say the sentences with the correct stress while listening;
- say the chant with the correct pronunciation, word stress and rhythm.

- Communication and collaboration: work in pairs and groups to complete the learning tasks.
- Self-control & independent learning: perform pronunciation and listening tasks.

Activity 1. Listen and repeat (Track 18) | ||
Step 1: Tell the class that they are going to practice saying the sentences, paying attention to the sentence stress. Explain that the words which are usually stressed in sentences are nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Step 2: Play the recording and encourage pupils to point at the stressed words in the first sentence while listening. Remind them that in this course we use the stress mark (') to indicate stressed words in a sentence. Step 3: Play the recording again and encourage pupils to listen and repeat. Do this a few times until pupils feel confident. Correct their pronunciation where necessary and praise them when it is good. Step 4: Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the second line. Step 5: Let pupils work in pairs or groups to say the sentences I’ll 'do the 'shopping for 'Tet. and We’ll 'decorate our 'house with 'flowers. Invite a few pupils to listen to the recording and say the sentences in front of the class. If they perform well, praise them. |

- To identify and underline the missing stressed word in four sentences, and to say the sentences with the correct stress while listening.

- Pupils can identify and underline the missing stressed word in four sentences, and to say the sentences with the correct stress while listening.

Step 1: Draw pupils’ attention to the four sentences. Explain what pupils have to do. Tell pupils that the two / three underlined words in each question are stressed but that one additional stress is missing. Check comprehension. Step 2: Play the recording for pupils to listen. Play the recording again for pupils to listen and underline one more stressed word in each sentence. Step 3: Tell pupils to swap books with a partner, then check the answers as a class. Write the correct answers on the board. Step 4: Play the recording again for pupils to listen and check their answers again. Step 5: Get some pupils to say the sentences aloud in front of the class. Praise them if they do a good job. |

Step 1:Draw pupils’ attention to the lyrics of the chant. Check comprehension. Step 2:Play the recording all the way through. Encourage pupils to listen carefully to the rhythm and pronunciation. Draw pupils’ attention to the stressed words in the sentences. Step 3: Play the recording, line by line, for pupils to listen and repeat. Correct their pronunciation, if necessary. Step 4: Play the recording all the way through for pupils to chant along. Encourage them to clap while chanting. Extension: Divide the class into two or more groups to take turns listening to and repeating the chant, while the rest of the class claps along. Have pupils write their own chants by replacing the activities in the chant and using their own ones. Pay attention to the rhythm of the chant. Have pupils practise their new chants. |

5. FUN CORNER AND WRAP-UP (7 minutes)
* Option 1: Game: Help the Kitchen Gods (ppt)
- Divide the class into 2 teams: Boys and Girls.
- In teams, they take turn to read the sentences and find out the stressed words. If they have the correct ones, they will get the points.
- The team with more points wins the game.
* Option 2: Hot seat game
- Divide the class into 2 or 3 teams.
- Call a pupil to come up to the front and pick up a flash card.
- He/ She has to use gestures to show their friends what the word or phrase is.
