1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (5 minutes)

a. Objectives

- To revise Wh-questions in the previous lesson by having pupils play the game “Who has more correct answers?”

b. Content

- Let’s play.

c. Expected outcomes

- Pupils can revise Wh-questions in the previous lesson by having pupils play the game “Who has more correct answers?”

Let’s play.

- Greet the class.

- Spend a few minutes revising the previous lesson by asking pupils to play the game Who has more correct answers at page 67.

- Praise the winner with the most correct answers.

- Ask pupils to open their books to page 68 and look at Unit 20, Lesson 3, Activity 1.

- Pupils listen to and follow the teacher’s instructions.

- Pupils open their books to start the new lesson.

2. ACTIVITY 1: KNOWLEDGE CONSTRUCTION (5 minutes)

- To correctly repeat two Wh-questions with falling intonation.

Pupils can correctly repeat two Wh-questions with falling intonation.

Activity 1. Listen and repeat. (Track 99)

Step 1: Ask pupils to pay attention to the arrow indicating falling intonation at the end of the Wh-question Where are you going to visit this summer? Have them listen to the recording and repeat the sentence until they feel confident. Correct their pronunciation if necessary.
Step 2: Repeat the same procedure with the second question.

Step 3: Give pupils a time limit to practise saying the questions in pairs or groups. Go round the class and give corrections when necessary. Invite some pupils to say the questions in front of the class. Give feedback and correction when necessary.

- Pupils look at the questions and listen to the teacher’s instructions.

- Pupils listen to the recording again and repeat.

- Pupils practise saying the questions in pairs or groups.

- Some pupils come to the front of the class to say the questions.

Two Wh-questions: Where are you going to visit this summer? and What are you going to do this summer?

3. ACTIVITY 2: PRACTICE (10 minutes)

Step 1: Have pupils read Question 1. Explain that they will hear the question, repeat and then say it with a falling intonation.

Step 2: Do the same with Questions 24.

Step 3: Invite a few pupils to say the questions in front of the class. Give corrections and feedback where necessary.

- Pupils read the questions. Pupils listen to the teacher’s instructions.

- Pupils practise saying the questions in front of the class.

- Four Wh-questions

1. What nationality is she?
2. Where did you go last summer?

3. Why didn’t you go to school?

4. ACTIVITY 3: PRACTICE (8 minutes)

a. Objectives

- To say the chant with the correct rhythm, intonation and pronunciation.

b. Content

- Activity 3. Let’s chant.

c. Expected outcomes

- Pupils can say the chant with the correct rhythm, intonation and pronunciation.

Activity 3. Let’s chant. (Track 101)

Step 1: Have pupils scan the first verse of the chant. Draw their attention to the falling intonation in the Wh-questions.

Step 2: Play the recording and ask pupils to listen and repeat the first verse, line by line. Show them how to chant and use their fingers to draw a falling line for the falling intonation in the air.

Step 3: Play the recording of the whole verse again for pupils to do choral and individual repetition. Give corrections and feedback where necessary.

Step 4: Repeat Steps 1 to 3 for the second verse of the chant. Draw pupils’ attention to the falling intonation in the Wh-questions.
Extension: Replace some places and the activities in the chant. Have pupils practise the new chant.

- Pupils read the lyrics and pay attention to the falling intonation at the end.

- Pupils listen to the recording, line by line, and repeat.

- Pupils listen to the recording all the way through and chant along. Other pupils clap along.

- Pupils replace some places and the activities in the chant. Have pupils practise the new chant.

5. FUN CORNER AND WRAP-UP (7 minutes)

* Option 1: Game: Get the money to travel (ppt)

- Divide the class into 2 teams.

- Pupils take turns choosing a suitcase and unscramble the words to make a meaningful question. Pupils say the questions, pay attention to the intonation.

- Check the pupils’ answers as a whole class.

- If they give the correct answers, they can get points for their team.

- The team with more points will be the winner.

* Option 2: Game: Pass the ball

- Ask each pupil to write a question on a piece of paper. The teacher collects and puts all the questions in a box.

- Teacher plays the music, and the pupils pass the ball.

- Teacher stops music suddenly. Have the pupil with a ball pick a question, then read aloud and answer.
