III. PROCEDURES

1. WARM-UP & REVIEW (7 mins)

a. Objectives:

- To create a friendly atmosphere in the classroom.

- To revise the sounds and words.

- The story about Phil and Sue

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils recall vocabulary from the previous lesson by telling the story from their memory.

- To help pupils learn by heart and understand the words.

- Pupils can identify the words and read them with correct pronunciation.

Step 1: Point to the picture of question 1, and ask What can you see? Can you see a goat and a gate? Draw pupils’ attention to the boxes next to the letters a and letter b. Invite some pupils to point to the pictures and say the words in front of the class.

Step 2: Play the recording twice or more if needed. Ask pupils to listen and tick the correct box.

Step 3: Follow the same procedure Picture 2, 3 and 4. Set a time limit for pupils to swap and check the answers.

Step 4: Invite some pupils to the front of the class to point to the pictures and say what they have heard.

- Look at the picture. Answer the teacher’s questions. Point to the pictures and say the words in front of the class.

- Listen to the recording and tick the correct box.

- Follow the teacher’s instructions. Swap with their partner and check the answers.

- Come to the front of the class to point to the pictures and say what they have heard.

There are three questions (1, 2 and 3) in this activity. Question 1 includes the pictures: a. a goat, b. a gate. Question 2 includes the pictures: a. a pencil, b. a pen. Question 3 includes the pictures: a. a hand, b. a head.

Step 1: Have pupils look at the pairs of letters, practise saying the letter names and letter sounds in pairs. Invite some pupils to say the letters and the sounds in front of the class. Explain the task: Listen to the sound and circle the letter.

Step 2: Play the recording, ask pupils to listen and circle the letters of the sounds. Have pupils listen at least twice. Give pupils time to work.

Step 3: Invite some pupils to show their answers. Ask pupils to swap and check the answers. Ask pupils to repeat the words several times. Say the letters aloud and have pupils write down the letters on their small boards.

- Look at the pairs of letters, practise saying the letter names and letter sounds in pairs. Say the letters and the sounds in front of the class.

- Listen and circle the letters of the sounds. Listen at least twice.

- To help pupils identify things.

- Activity 3. Listen and tick or cross.

c. Expected outcomes:

- Pupils can identify things.

Step 1: Have pupils look at Picture 1 and ask What can you see? Can you see a bell? Invite some pupils to point to the pictures and say the words in front of the class.

Step 2: Play the recording twice or more if needed. Guide pupils to listen to the sound and put a tick or cross in the box under each picture. Ask pupils to repeat the words several times. Follow the same procedure with the other 3 pictures.

Step 3: Invite some pupils to the front of the class to point to the pictures and show their answers. Correct the answers, if necessary. Set a time limit for pupils to swap, check the answers. Give further support to those pupils who find it difficult to do the task.

- Listen to the sound and put a tick or cross in the box under each picture. Repeat the words several times.

- Come to the front of the class to point to the pictures and show their answers. Swap, check the answers.

The activity consists of four pictures: 1. a bell; 2. a fish on the plate; 3. a girl with brown hair; 4. a boy holding a pencil. There is a box under each picture.
